JA biz town

The Traverse Mountain 5th grade students got a taste of real life at JA Biztown at the gateway. It is truly an amazing and unique experience for these kids. They trained for 3 months on how to use checks, cash, debit cards, and credit cards. They learned about different positions in companies and different pay grades. They applied for positions and studied their duties ahead of time.
I was a volunteer and had to go early for an hour long training. The goal for each company was to take out a loan, run the company, and pay off the debt by the end of the day. Each employee got paid twice that day and had to open their own bank accounts and spend the money wisely. I was a volunteer in United Way.
Caden worked in Alphagraphics.

They paid for advertising on the news which was playing in every business in the town. They swore in a mayor and learned how to vote.
All in all, it was a stressful day and a great lesson for the 5th graders.
